What a company needs to prepare before ordering own-brand panels: volume, branding, certification and lead time.
A company that wants to sell panels under its own name usually starts thinking about OEM solar panel manufacturing. It sounds straightforward, but there are a few things to settle before you send a request for quotation — leave them open and the back-and-forth drags on for weeks.
OEM means the factory produces to your requirements and the finished product carries your brand. For panels, the branded parts are the logo printed on the aluminium frame, the specification label on the back, the packaging, and the test documentation issued in your company's name.
First, the volume. This decides whether the job is feasible at all. The factory has to stop the line to change labels and printing plates, so on a very small order the changeover cost makes the unit price nonsensical. The policy currently shown on this site is a minimum of 500 panels per order — that figure is an illustrative number and is awaiting confirmation from Asia Energy.
Second, the power range and cell technology. Selling to households with small roofs, moderate-wattage panels are easier to lay out. Selling to factories with wide roofs, higher-wattage panels cut both the count and the installation labour. Get this wrong and the product you make does not suit your own customers.
Third, the brand assets. You need a print-ready logo file, colour codes, and the content for the specification label. This is the part that most often holds up the schedule, because many companies only have a low-resolution logo image pulled off their website.
Fourth, whose name the paperwork is issued in. If you sell into projects or tenders, the test reports and certificates must carry your brand name. That has to be declared from the start — it is not something to change after production.
Both timings above are illustrative figures awaiting confirmation from Asia Energy. When asking for a quotation, ask for the schedule to be committed in writing.
Besides price, the three questions below save a lot of time later: what the minimum volume per order is; if the sample fails, how much longer a remake takes and who bears the cost; and who handles warranty to the end customer for a product sold under your brand.
